temperature of the day went to napa, dropping to 16 degrees. certainly, a new record low for us. and one of the coldest temperatures all year long. it set scenes like this. fountains were frozen over and dangerous icy patches on those roadways. we're setting ourselves up for a repeat performance of that. 30 in napa. 28 in santa rosa. 45 in fremont. and 38 in san jose. so, the freeze warning remains in effect right now for most of the bay area. temperatures ranging 21 to 36 degrees. we'll have more on how low it's going to go for our cities across the bay area. plus, details on low snow. and when we could get snow flurries. >> snow in the bay area. >>> black ice blanketed roads in mall nut creek. crews were forced to close some of these streets. tune in for the latest weather and traffic conditions on our morning show. how about this? black ice on the ground and those are icicles on the degrees. a viewer sent in this picture. icicles on andrews elementary school. don't see that often. it was 25 degrees. you want to share a weather photo with us. go to nbc.com and click on the weather tab.
tonight for the overnight lows again. 27 at livermore and 24 degrees at fairfield and 24 at napa. it is cold out there for them and from 1 to 8 degrees cooler right now than what it was last night and tonight, we should bottom out for them and that they should not be that bad and to help the temperatures drop just a bit for them in santa rosa and in napa to get them down for the clear skies. but by 8:00, they were down to the lower 40s. and for tomorrow, they will need to recover to the near 50- degree range. and so in the daytime, we're bumping up the numbers for them. like they need to go out and that it will not be as cold as it was today. but that's what's happening for them and the low pressure over california that is moving into the texas panhandle region and the jet stream that divides the cold air from the north to the relatively warm air to the south, allowing all the arctic air up here to plunge all the way down to mexico. as a result, the cold air, they will need to help us with pretty cold tonight. but that's my question to begin to move in for the second half of the

now, the higher elevations of napa county hit with snow last night. the plows were on stand by. >> by 8:30, the rain washed away most of the snow at elevation 4,300 but for part of the afternoon, the flakes definitely falling, enough that k cal trans put up signs. four miles down highway 29, the evening was peppered with downpours. it was an awful trip to get just about anywhere, some locals say the wet blast is unusual. >> i can pretty much get through the entire winter without turning on the heat and went home today and turned the heat on. we are miserable. >> reporter: visitors of chicago celebrating the 15th anniversary got a taste of the city they just left. >> expecting sunny. it was supposed to be our anniversary and here we are like in weather just like chicago. >> reporter: to get out of the 39-degree cold, some folks jumped in 104-degree water at the call calastoga hot spring. >> it is good for you. >> reporter: walking back into the cold is hard part. abc 7 news. >> no kidding. >>> check out this cal trans image. 101 north is shut down due to snow and traffic related
but into the teens across parts of the napa valley. that's where we're headed. overnight lows, nap that 19, even san jose expected to get down to 22 degrees. even though we got down to 29. it hasn't been this cold since january 13 earlier this year. when we got down to 26 degrees. so again tonight, expecting to be one of the coldest nights. and here's the other thing. this is the eighth consecutive morning that we're going to be waking up with temperatures below 32 degrees. in napa. and the last time we saw something like this, a long-term cold snap, that was back january 10 where we were below freezing for our morning lows for 12 days in a row. 4 we all know the cold is tack a toll on your body. the california crops are starting to take their toll. monty, how cold is it where you are? >> it's pretty gold. in fact, this is the man made snow from the ice skating rink across the street. i've had it since about 6:00 tonight. you can see that it hasn't really melted at all. right now, it is a very chilly 33 dpst mere at walnut creek right now. the pitter cold is not keeping everyone indoors. the bitter
